First Lifesaving Club in The World
In 1907,Australia's first volunteer surf life saving clubs appeared on Sydney's ocean beaches. This club consisted of volunteer groups of men. The groups were trained some methods and patrolled the beach for public safety. This movement makes surf life saving become a famous based activity in Australia. After the club was appeared, many clubs were made in Australia. This is why Australia is the birthplace of lifesaving.
First Club in Japan
In Japan, which club is the first surf life saving club!? The club is Shimoda lifesaving club. In 1978,the club started patrolling and established Australian style system 'Japan Surf Life Saving Association' located in Shimoda. In 1987, women joined the team and in 1990 junior lifesaving activity began. From this club, many clubs are established in Japan. Following picture is the first member of Shimoda lifesaving club.
Rescue Method
Rescue methods have also been changed. At the beginning, lifesavers use ropes to pull drowned person. But, this way is so difficult, then they made rescue tube. Rescue tube is a flotation that can help support the victim's and rescuer's weight to make a rescue easier. We can rescue three people with one tube. In addition to it, they made rescue board which can reach patients earlier and float with around ten mans together. Nowadays, we also use IRB or Marine Jet which has engine to reach patients quickly.
