Danger in the Sea

Today, I will show three danger in going sea-bathing.

Rip Current
Rip current is the most dangerous phenomenon. However, all most all of the Japanese don't know what is the rip current and how to deal with that. This may influence the high number of drowned people compared with other countries.  Then, I want to explain to you the meaning of rip current.
Do you know the mechanism of water movement in the sea!? A large amount of the seawater cannot change. But, the wave occurs. When the wave occurs, seawater comes from the sea to the beach. When seawater comes to beach, the seawater tries to get back to the sea. This movement is a rip current.
Rip current is so powerful and so fast. I heard that rip current's speed is of up to 8 feet per second, rip currents can move faster than Ian Thorpe. In short, the general public cannot swim along rip current. However, panicked swimmers often try to counter a rip current by swimming straight back to shore. Such swimmers often drown because of fatigue.
What should we do if you are caught in a rip current??? Then, you should require the lifesavers assistants. We lifesavers are always ready for helping you, and we usually stave off a danger. Therefore, if you want to swim and play safety, I recommend you go to the sea with lifesavers. Following picture is a poster that show how to deal with rip current.

Inshore Holes
Inshore holes are very dangerous to non-swimmers and small children because they can be swept into deep water quickly. Inshore holes are caused by wave action on the sandy bottom off out beaches. Inshore holes causes uneven bottom contours that result in a dangerous condition. Inshore holes can be very deep, and the person may not be able to touch bottom. Inshore holes are sometimes just long trenches along the beach, but at other times they are characterized by flattened wave action. Inshore holes often turn into channels that can also cause rip currents. Therefore, protector should pay attention to their children. And if you were caught in such a deep inshore holes, you should calm down and go back to the beach.

heatstroke
You may think the swimming or play in the sea is a only danger. But, on the beach is also have danger. Then, I talk about heatstroke. Nowadays, schools often have opportunities to teach students about heatstroke, so you may know. Heatstroke is a result from exercise or heavy work in hot environments combined with inadequate fluid intake. Heatstroke may cause death. Therefore, if you have sickly feelings, you must drink waters and salty something and get enough rest under a cool condition such us under the tree.

Lifesaving History

Today,I will write about lifesaving history.

First Lifesaving Club in The World
In 1907,Australia's first volunteer surf life saving clubs appeared on Sydney's ocean beaches. This club consisted of volunteer groups of men. The groups were trained some methods and patrolled the beach for public safety. This movement makes surf life saving become a famous based activity in Australia. After the club was appeared, many clubs were made in Australia. This is why Australia is the birthplace of lifesaving.

First Club in Japan
In Japan, which club is the first surf life saving club!? The club is Shimoda lifesaving club. In 1978,the club started patrolling and established Australian style system 'Japan Surf Life Saving Association' located in Shimoda. In 1987, women joined the team and in 1990 junior lifesaving activity began. From this club, many clubs are established in Japan. Following picture is the first member of Shimoda lifesaving club.

Rescue Method
Rescue methods have also been changed. At the beginning, lifesavers use ropes to pull drowned person. But, this way is so difficult, then they made rescue tube. Rescue tube is a flotation that can help support the victim's and rescuer's weight to make a rescue easier. We can rescue three people with one tube. In addition to it, they made rescue board which can reach patients earlier and float with around ten mans together. Nowadays, we also use IRB or Marine Jet which has engine to reach patients quickly.

What is the lifesaving?

I had an image that lifesaving is specialized in oceanic environment, but in my research  the idea is completely changed.
According to some reference books, there are many kinds of activities of lifesaving.

The activity of lifesaving on the beach is called surf or coastal lifesaving.

In addition to the ocean activity, they often keep an eyes in the pool.

And they maybe encounter an accident in flood river, on the road in the way of home.

To deal with such an accident every time, they learn appropriate techniques to save someone.

This is a research.

When I knew this fact and think whether I become a lifesaver, I had uneasiness to save someone because this activity related with human's life problem.

But I found that if I cannot master or understand these techniques, I cannot help some one, that may be my loved person, family or so.

Therefore, I started to learn about these techniques.

Now, as a lifesaver, we rescue someone from drowning, do resuscitation and first aid.

We always ready for saving lives!

This is why I tell you about lifesaving. I want you to get interested in our activities.

Thank you for your reading!
